and some July too

Despite the roller coaster of uncertainty we experienced the first week of July, we managed to create a few good memories. Uncle Daniel George was here, as well as both of my parents. We even got to see Aunt Charity and her kids, who were passing through on their way to Ephraim.

We supported the local Boy Scout troops and headed to the big Park City 4th of July pancake breakfast. It was great!

Later that weekend we toured the Conference Center in Salt Lake with my parents.

We also had a family going-away party for Greg that weekend. It was so much fun. We saw many people on both sides of our families whom we hadn't seen in ages. Thank you to everyone who made the drive up here. We really appreciated it, and it was wonderful to be with you.

(On a side note, that evening I was convinced that I should keep blogging. It was fun to be with family members whom I haven't seen in years, but who seem to really know my children. Like when Liz knew that if you want to get David excited about something, ask him about his birthday. It warms my heart to know there are family and friends following us and growing to love my children through my blog. Thank you, dear readers, for your love and support.)

And that's not all. Among other things, we also hit the Park City Farmer's Market a few times, stopped for ice cream at Granny's in Heber City, visited Grandma and Grandpa, filled up the frequent drinks card at the Jeremy Store way too fast, played with Aunt Marie, wandered Main Street, checked out various parks in the area, ate plenty of Cafe Rio, and checked out the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point.

Greg, we all had a wonderful month together, didn't we?

June dinosaurs

One weekend we decided to check out Dinosaur National Monument. I loved crossing the Uinta Basin on highway 40. It was beautiful in that "I feel very small and the sky is so big" kind of way.

The Quarry Visitor Center has been closed for some time because it's structurally unsafe. I remember stopping there when I was little. (Thanks to the stimulus package there is now money to rebuild it, which is good because it is very very cool, if my little memory serves me correctly.)
We went on a short hike that took us right by dinosaur fossils still in the rock.

It was really cool! At first it was hard to see them, but once you got the hang of it, there were so many!

David was more excited about finding dinosaur teeth (small sharp rocks):
It was a super short hike--not even a mile--but David (who is not a good hiker when not properly motivated by a group of older cousins or friends) couldn't quite make it to the finish on his own. And Mary couldn't quite make it to the finish without a snooze--looking for dinosaur fossils is hard work, after all.


We also visited the new Field Museum in Vernal. We liked it.

We had planned to hike out to some dinosaur tracks at a nearby state park, but the weather was ominous. Besides, the reservoir was so high the tracks would have been submerged. So instead we headed to Chuck-a-rama. (Classic.) Being in Vernal was half the fun of our day anyway!

Before we headed back home, we drove by the temple, converted from an old tabernacle building.
We had a fun day together.

June cousins

There is something magical about cousins. We are lucky to have a lot of magic this summer.

This first picture should have been in my last post, as it was taken in Idaho. I love it. Look at that expression on my poor little niece, "Save me."

Fortunately, David and Mary have another cute baby cousin to love on here locally.
