The big day finally arrives

After six months of meticulous, nonstop (seriously, every day) planning and anticipating, it finally happened:  David's birthday party!

David loves his friends, and he enjoys looking at pictures of them, so this post is for him, as it should be.

Before we get to the friends, though, here is a picture of the cake:

Actually, it wasn't really a cake.  It was more like a bunch of chocolatey cake crumbs held together with chocolate frosting.  (I won't bore you with the details, but some bad luck and poor planning on my part turned a simple Duncan Hines devil's food cake into a fiasco.  But there's nothing that two extra batches of frosting can't fix!)

Okay, one more picture of the cake.  I deserve it.  (Hey, I woke up at 5 am to fix the fiasco before my kids woke up to "help."  Yes, my dear family and friends who all know I am not a morning person, I woke up at 5 am for a birthday cake.  David, don't ever say I don't love you.)

Now, onto the friends.

Time to go home:

I think it lived up to David's expectations.  He was so, so, so excited--and has been for the past six months.  That's a lot of pressure on a mom!  Fortunately, we had a really good turn-out, and that's what David cares about the most, his friends and having a good time with them--and isn't that the point of a birthday party, really?  So a big, big thank you to everyone who came!  It really meant a lot to our whole family.  We love you all very much.  (And we'll miss you!)

P.S. My friend Lisa said that when she and her kids arrived at the park, David bounded up to them and shouted, "Happy Birthday!"  Isn't that cute?  He was so excited about his party!

P.P.S.  David doesn't actually turn four until next month, but how could we not have a party before we left?  (But does he get to say he's four now?)
