Last week of school

This past week was David's last week of school.  (I don't know why they get out so early.  But if I were with this rowdy crew all year, I think I'd be ready to throw in the towel mid-May too.)

Tuesday was Pajama-Teddy Bear Day.  When I told David he got to wear his pajamas to school, he eyed me suspiciously, and asked, "Why?"

"Because...it's fun."

"Why?"

Good question.

I did convince him that all the other kids would be wearing their pajamas too.  He agreed to go along with the crowd, mostly because he wouldn't have to be bothered with getting dressed that morning.  (He also wanted to wear his really soggy nighttime pull-up.  I did bother him to put on some underpants.)

Unfortunately, he happened to be wearing a pair of ugly, super-clearance, dinosaur pajamas that say "Bone Wild," which seems to me vaguely perverse.  Oh well.

Additionally, he wore them all day.  Including when the woman from the county early intervention program came over to do Mary's vision and nutrition screening.  (Don't worry--I found a way to oh-so casually drop into the conversation that it had been Pajama-Teddy Bear Day at school, lest she think I don't bother to change my children out of their semi-pornographic pajamas by three in the afternoon.)

I think I'm not a big fan of Preschool Pajama Day.  I say they have to wait until high school homecoming week to wear pajamas to school.  Or at least middle school.

(David was excited to bring his teddy bear, which was cute.  Teddy bears, yes.  But pajamas....nah.)

Thursday was the last day of school.  David's teacher and the preschool director both gave me big hugs.  Big hugs that said, "Your son is a handful, but we appreciate him, and we know you are doing the best you can, we appreciate you, and we will miss your family next year."  It felt good.

Despite the fact that David decided he was too big for his preschool months ago, he already misses it.  He has a very tender heart.  And strong emotional attachments to people.  This is just the first of many difficult changes to come in the next few weeks and months...
