The window

At any given moment, life in the Air Force is all about the list.

Different lists at different times, of course.  The promotion lists, the commanders list, the Air Staff list, the AFIT GEM list, the CE-32E 365 Vulnerability list, to mention but a few.  What you do, where you do it, and how much you get paid doing it are determined by lists: what list your name appears on, where on the list it appears, and what on the list is written next to it.  "When is the list coming out?" is a common refrain in Air Force circles.  Speculation abounds.  Anticipation multiplies.

For quite some time now, our life has been lived in great anticipation of (and speculation about) the list.  In our case the list is of those civil engineer officers awarded staff positions at Major Command centers.  One could argue that this is an important list, a list that could determine the trajectory of one's career.

Some of you know that the list was supposed to be released last Friday.  But, in typical Air Force fashion, it's going to be released late.  (Does any Air Force list ever come out on time?!)  Supposedly the list will be released later this week.

Whenever it does come out:  Greg's name could/should/would have been on that list.  But it's not going to be . . .

You know how some people say that when God closes a door, He opens a window?

This time the door is wide open, but God opened the window anyway.

We're going through the window.
