Picture

I am working on a book of pictures of David and Mary. Today I came across this picture. Never before have I given it more than a glance. It's just an "oops" picture of my arm, right? This time I looked closely at it. And I love it.

I love the way Mary and David are looking into each other's faces. I see that often. This is how they look at each other--their faces light up with joy. You can't see it, but David has a huge grin. Notice how David is clasping Mary's hand. That wasn't posed. It is the natural gesture of an affectionate older brother to his adoring baby sister.

It's really unfortunate that my arm is there, and it's clearly beyond the help of even the mightiest Photoshop wizard. But in some ways I like the arm in the foreground. It gives the viewer the impression of spying through a peep hole or around a corner, and catching a glimpse of David and Mary as they really are together--happy.
