After this, her first time swimming (age 4 months), which was clearly not a success (although David thought it was pretty neat),
and this (another attempt, age 6 months),
as well as a few other tries (all of which included various amounts of crying and none of which Mary would count as an enjoyable experience), Mary has earned the reputation of hating the swimming pool. (She even cries just being near one.) But yesterday that all changed. These being the last few weeks of summer, we finally ventured out to the small water park at the nearby rec center. After a slow start--with lots of whimpering and clinging to Mom--Mary eventually decided it was fun. Really fun! She splashed and kicked and walked along the side of the baby pool. She even enjoyed getting splashed in the face by a fountain. She proved herself to be a real water baby. Way to go, Mary!
(Have I mentioned that Mary has discovered the joys of stairs--which are a novelty since, happily for me, there are none in our house? Climbing out of the pool was even more fun than being in it.)
