Birthday parties on the brain
Ever since he turned 3, David has been in birthday party mode. (Which led our Father's Day celebration to have more of a birthday party feel to it.) So when David found out that his dear pal Seth was going to have a birthday party, he was over the moon. I made the mistake of telling him 24 hours ahead of time. (I forgot to follow the example of my friend Rachel who doesn't tell her kids where they are going until they're in the car.) Twenty-four hours is a long time to wait when you don't know the difference between 2 minutes and 2 weeks. Fortunately, we were able to fill 1 hour of that excruciating wait with the activity of going to the store to choose a gift. David was very insistent that Seth get this one particular tractor. It was just what David himself would want, and I was worried that he thought he was going to get to keep it. (But, no, he really was just really excited to give it to Seth.) The 24-hour wait at last came to an end, and David had a blast. It was a great party. You can see pictures here on my friend Lisa's blog.
