The good-luck, bad-luck, good-luck caboose

Two Saturdays ago we headed back out to Young's Dairy for some lunch and a quick trip to the farm.

I have to include this picture of David because he was so dang happy to go on this little tractor-pull ride. Except for the two big boys in the back, all the other kids were bawling like babies and refused to ride. Then there was David who was literally shouting, "Hooray!" When the driver shouted, "Are you ready?" David cheered, "Yeah!!" David might be exhausting at times, but he sure is a heck of a lot of fun to be with!

After the farm, I drove Greg over to the rail-trail in Xenia so he could run the 12 miles home. At this point, David was bawling like a baby because he wanted "more farm." Then what should appear, as we pulled into the parking lot, but a big red caboose! What amazingly good luck! David had been talking about cabooses for days, and we had no idea there was going to be one at the drop-off point. David's need for "more farm" melted away as soon as he saw the caboose. He is one lucky kid!

Last Saturday, after a trip to the park, we drove back out to Xenia for the monthly electronics recycling day, and we had hoped to return to the caboose, as well as drop Greg off for another long run. We'd even told David we were going to the caboose. But by the time we dropped off our old laser printer, it was pouring rain. No such caboose luck that morning--we didn't even drive by it. Plus, Greg was facing the prospect of a 14-mile run on a treadmill--yikes!! What bad luck.

But the weather soon cleared, Greg ran 14 miles outside, and David was super lucky: That evening Greg was kind enough to take David (and Mary) all the way back to Xenia just to see the caboose. And I had a couple of hours to myself. What good luck for me!
